Developmental Relationships & Igniting Sparks: Creating Communities that Help Youth Thrive

  • First Christian Church, Heritage Hall 6900 Market Avenue North North Canton, OH, 44721 United States (map)

Who should attend: Open.

About this event:  Relationships are too important to leave to chance. Social-emotional development blossoms when caring adults are present in young people’s lives.  Search Institute’s Developmental Relationship Framework identifies the five elements and 20 actions that make a relationship transformative.  The five essential elements are:

  • Express care
  • Challenge growth
  • Provide support
  • Share power
  • Expand possibilities

The workshop will introduce Developmental Relationships as a framework for assessing individual and organizational actions for building these strong relational connections with the youth they serve.

The Developmental Relationship workshop is being combined with Search Institute’s research on Sparks – a special quality, skill, or interest that a young person is passionate about and that unleashes their energy and joy. Helping youth explore their sparks can provide a gateway to building the kind of meaningful connections consistent with a developmental relationship approach to helping youth thrive. Participants will be introduced to a research-based framework and practical tools for maximizing those relationships in the lives of youth.

Cost – This is a free training.
